The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with two separate homicide cases that claimed the lives of two individuals in different parts of the state.
According to the police, the first incident occurred on July 25 in Unguwan Kur, Bauchi metropolis, where a 25-year-old man, Zahradeen Dan’Azumi Tanko, was allegedly stabbed during an attack involving two suspects. The victim sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said one of the suspects, identified as Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado, was arrested while efforts are ongoing to track down another suspect who reportedly fled after the incident. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate case, police arrested three suspects over the death of a 51-year-old man, Monday Chiroma, in Dandango community. Investigators said the attack was allegedly linked to accusations that the victims were responsible for the supposed witchcraft-related illness of a 20-year-old woman who later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Bauchi.
Authorities said Chiroma and another victim were attacked by a group of individuals before being taken to hospital. Chiroma later died from his injuries while the second victim survived and is receiving treatment.
The three suspects arrested in connection with the incident are Danjuma Anthony, Ayuba Anthony, also known as Babaru, and Christopher Adamu. Police said the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation, while efforts continue to apprehend others believed to have participated in the attack.
Reacting to the incidents, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the killings and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands. He urged members of the public to report grievances through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence or jungle justice.
The police command said both cases remain under investigation as authorities work to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
